A Clinical Analysis of Surgical Mortality

Abstract
We evaluated the operative mortality of surgical patients who had been operated at the surgical department of Gyeong-Sang National University Hospital from Jan 15, 1987 to Aug 31, 1991. In 1.725 patients who admitted this department, 1.111
causes,
and
of which 28 patient were dead after surgical intervention.
@ES The results wee as follow:
@EN 1) Total admission death rate was 2.9%, while operative mortality was 2.6%.
2) Mortality was highest in the neonates and infants.
3) The ratio of mortality of elective vs emergent operation was 1 ; 6.25.
4) The postoperative mortality was incresased as hospital stay and operation time increase.
5) The operative mortality of congenital anomalies in neonates & infants was 62.5%
6) The amin cause of death was sepsis(37.9%).
